Associated Content is Now Yahoo Voices on the Yahoo Contributor Network

Associated Content was bought out by Yahoo sometime back and seem to be tightening their reigns. All links will eventually lose the associated content name as everything will transfer to a Yahoo domain. No complaint there. Their guidelines, only slightly though, show some changes. They even want us to go through our already published works and re-edit what might not be considered one of our best. Trust me, there's a few of my short stories and other articles I will polish. After all, we should only publish our best. And if we decide to delete anything, we won't lose our page views. That's nice. Most of us depend on page views.

Also up for article of the year is an interview I did with Jeff Gerke, publisher of Marcher Lord Press. If you know someone famous, semi famous, or a local hero, Yahoo Voices are looking for interviews.

Yahoo Voices pays upfront, the competition is getting pretty fierce but you can publish short stories, poetry and other articles without pay. Yet, you will get paid for page views. All works, whether paid or unpaid are now publishable only after their people okay it. They're cleaning up the site. But if you have a writing niche and are knowledgeable in your field of expertise you can make more then pennies.

I've been writing articles for Associated Content for quite a while now. The set-up is so easy that I keep coming back to AC even after others have sent me links to write for them. They just don't earn as well anywhere else. Recently, I've learned that creating slide shows can pay just as well. There's no up front payment for this, however, but each page view will earn you a little bit of cash. I believe the site is getting better and now I've been invited to be one of their featured contributors for their Arts & Entertainment section. This will give me three paying jobs per month--a little scary because now I'm obligated to come up with the content. It's also an honor, of course.

In any case, if you have snap shots of family and friends lying around, why not publish them on AC and get paid. I have 53 writers/authors/photographers who joined me already. Too bad I don't get paid for any of their work. Ah, such is life.

Get Paid For Writing Articles, Short Stories And Reviews

I've tried Helium and Triond and even though I haven't given up on either it seems that online money is made when writing for Associated Content. Articles should be well written, of course, edited and all that but the length is what attracts me. Most of the time 600 words will get you anywhere between a $5 or $13 offer. And let's not forget the article will keep making you money every time someone views it.

In any case, I received five payments today from AC which is always a blessing. Here's my latest editorial about working as a body double on CSI Miami. You could read it for an example of how easy it is. Enjoy and keep writing.

New Fiction At Associated Content

Here's the first installment of a three chapter novella I published at Associated Content. Fiction is something they still don't pay for but you do get paid for every page view. It's that simple. Of course if you would like to get paid at AC just write, edit and submit your how-to articles and product reviews.

The Whisperer:

The Moribund River, in the cursed land of Perdition, boils with fire. It breathes mud-like pockets of ashes and bones. On its west bank a vile creature named Pernicious crawls to its edges. His exaggerated eagle claws scratch the surface of Perdition’s thirsty terrain. He drags his broken skeletal body closer to the flames of Moribund.

The fiery river, he believes, will heal him. But he fears its power and does not touch. He can only wait for help and hope he is worth something to someone in this desolate land.

“Whisperer!” a voice thunders. “Come here!”

Pernicious mumbles and ignores the hollering of the one they call Abaddon. “Son of Anak,” the Whisperer screeches, “leave me be!”

Heat and dry dust burns in their throats. Ashes fall like snow. Both beings are irritated but wait for the magic of Moribund’s fire. Will it bring them life, such as it is, or claim it?

“How could you lose to the Canaanite, a mere human?” Pernicious scoffs. His voice is more raspy than usual. “You are twice his size with the strength of ten men.” He starts to mock his superior but thinks better of it. His taunt is a measly whisper. “Abaddon, mighty leader of the Nephilim, indeed.” Pernicious raises his bony jaw in defiance. The ground shakes and billows of smoke rise through the fractures of the land. “I was once mightier than the likes of you ―stronger, swifter, and prettier, I might add, a better warrior than you, by far. I was . . . long ago.”

The World of Self-Publishing

If you're thinking of self-publishing, you are in good company. "Famous Authors Who Self-Published" takes a look at the world of self-publishing through success stories of authors, such as Beatrix Potter and Edgar Allen Poe, who started their careers by self-publishing their masterpieces.

Other successful authors who self-published are Mark Twain and G.P. Taylor (read article about Harry Potter's Successor here). The latter is a modern-day success story (though he would never "toot" his own horn) having sold the film rights to his young adult novel "Shadowmancer" to Universal for close to $6M. Nice!
